Bunjie Probiotic Baby Eye Wipes
Product Recall September 2025
Bunjie has issued a product recall for our Bunjie Probiotic Baby Eye Wipes manufactured between 1 November 2024 and 20 June 2025. If you have purchased Bunjie Eye Wipes manufactured within this period, please read on for more information:
What is the product concern?
- • Bunjie has identified sporadic instances of mould growth on the external packaging of our Bunjie Eye Wipes, and we have also received a small number of customer enquiries in relation to this potential product defect.
- • After conducting an extensive internal audit of all of our stock on hand, we identified random sachets with faulty seals. This could result in air flow in and out of the sachet, which can lead to the preservative system failing and may lead to mould growth inside the sachet or on the external packaging.
- • Using contaminated Eye Wipes may pose a health risk, including potential eye irritation or infection.
- • This issue has occurred during the manufacturing process when some individual sachets were not properly sealed. Whilst only a small proportion of products are affected, we are issuing a full recall as a safety precaution. Your mini human’s health is our top priority.
What action have we taken?
- • Outside of Bunjie’s extensive internal audit, we have isolated all affected batches and ceased selling all Eye Wipes products to our community, via our online store and retailers effective from when this was discovered.
- • Bunjie immediately contacted our manufacturer and notified them of this product defect. The manufacturer ceased production and initiated an internal investigation to resolve the issue with the seal in the manufacturing process, to reinstate supply as soon as possible.
- • Bunjie has notified the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment about this product recall and reached out to every direct customer, wholesaler, retailer and their stores. We’ve asked them to immediately check for any affected batches manufactured between 1 November 2024 and 20 June 2025 and remove them from shelves. Please note it may take our retailers a couple of days to physically action this request.
What actions should you take?
- • Please check if you have purchased or hold any Eye Wipes manufactured from 1 November 2024 to 20 June 2025. The batch number appears as a manufacturing date on the outer carton in this format: MFG: date-month-year.
- • If you do, please cease using this product immediately.
- • You are entitled to a full refund for these Eye Wipes, here are your options:
- • You can return the product to the place of purchase, and they will issue you a full refund. They may request proof of purchase which you can provide in several ways. E.g. receipt, bank statement, rewards loyalty card.
- Alternatively, you can submit a Refund Request Form or contact the Bunjie Customer Care Team at hey@bunjiestore.co.nz with a photo of the product including the manufacturing date which is located on the outer carton.
- It will be faster for the team to process, track and action refunds via the online form. If you do wish to speak with us, you can call us on +64 800 454 842 (Monday to Friday, 10am – 5pm NZST).
- Once you’ve taken these steps, please immediately and safely dispose of the Eye Wipes.

No, this recall only applies to Bunjie Probiotic Baby Eye Wipes. All other Bunjie wipes are safe to use.
We know this is worrying. The recall is precautionary. The concern is mould growth caused by a faulty seal, not every pack is affected. If your baby shows any signs of irritation or you’re concerned, please contact your healthcare professional.
Yes, as long as you have proof of purchase or proof of product (such as a photo showing the manufacturing date on the outer carton), you’re entitled to a refund, even if you’ve used some of the wipes.

Please email us at hey@bunjiestore.co.nz with your proof of purchase (receipt, bank statement etc) and we’ll sort it out for you.

Yes. Only Eye Wipes manufactured between 1 November 2024 and 20th June 2025 are affected. All others are safe to use. However, if you have any concerns about your Bunjie Eye Wipes, please contact our Customer Care team at hey@bunjiestore.co.nz so we can investigate.
Please reach out to us at hey@bunjiestore.co.nz with photos and details so we can investigate.
A small number of sachets weren’t sealed properly during manufacturing. This can let air in, which may cause the preservative system to fail and mould to grow either inside the sachet or on the outer packaging.
Please do not use them. Even if you don’t see mould, affected sachets can’t be guaranteed safe. We recommend stopping use immediately and requesting a refund or eGift card.
No, the code is on the outer packaging only.
We’ve paused production with our manufacturer, who is fixing the sealing process. We’re also adding extra quality checks before future production runs, so this can’t happen again.
We don’t have a confirmed date yet. Production will only restart once the manufacturing fix is complete and we are fully satisfied that this QA issue is rectified and fully tested. We’ll keep our community updated.

Yes. We’ve contacted all wholesalers, retailers and stores to remove affected stock immediately.
No. We’ve removed all Eye Wipes from sale across our online store and retail partners until the manufacturing issue is resolved.
The risk is low, but out of caution, we don’t recommend using any affected Eye Wipes. If mould were present, it could cause irritation and/or infection to sensitive skin or eyes. If your baby shows any reaction or you’re worried, please contact your healthcare professional.
We understand this might happen, but unfortunately, we’re not able to issue a refund or credit without proof of the product (such as a photo showing the manufacturing date, or returning the pack). If you still have proof of purchase, please reach out to us at hey@bunjiestore.co.nz.
Mould takes time to grow. The issue comes from a very small number of sachets that weren’t sealed properly during manufacturing. This allows tiny amounts of air to move in and out of the sachet over time. That slow airflow can eventually cause the preservative system to fail and mould to develop, sometimes weeks or months after the product was made.
The affected product looked completely normal when it left the warehouse. Because mould needs time to grow, it often won’t appear until weeks or months later, once air has slowly moved through a faulty seal. Routine quality checks wouldn’t always detect this type of slow-developing fault. We’ve now worked with our manufacturer to identify the cause and are adding extra safeguards so this can’t happen again.
